HippoEDIT 2.0 brings the long-running 2.x development cycle into a final release. It combines Unicode x86 and x64 builds with a modernized build stack, an integrated Hex Editor, extensive work on large-document performance, richer scripting and extension support, and the stability and compatibility fixes accumulated during the beta cycle.
Integrated Hex Editor
A built-in Hex Editor is now part of HippoEDIT, with editing, Find, Go To, bookmarks, undo history, changed-byte indication, overwrite paste, range selection, and support for saving resized documents.
Documents can be switched between Text and Hex views while preserving modified content.
Hex-mode Find and Replace treats both Find what and Replace with as hexadecimal input.
Large files and performance
Large-document loading and editing received extensive responsiveness and memory-use work, including background loading and word-wrap scenarios.
Performance was improved for Find Next, Smart Highlight, document thumbnail previews, Shell Preview, and closing wrapped documents.
Search work was reworked so editor UI and scripting searches can execute independently instead of blocking each other.
Scripting and extensibility
HippoEDIT 2.0 continues the scripting and plugin model with richer search and code-completion integration.
Auto Acronyms are built from keyword case variations and can be used by code completion and code templates.
Syntaxes, color schemes, and other modules can be loaded from custom locations, similar to plugins, which makes extension development and testing easier.
Live Colors now ships with the installer instead of requiring a separately synchronized Online Repository copy.
Syntax and editing improvements
Named colors can be used directly in style definitions.
Style-block container definitions support the simplified <Containers open="id" /> form.
Auto-recovery information is stored as UTF-8 to avoid losing characters when recovery data is saved.
Hex editing and text editing share more document state, including save/reload behavior across views.
Platform, stability, and compatibility
The final 2.0 release is available as Unicode x86 and x64 builds for current Windows systems and uses a modernized compiler and dependency stack.
The beta cycle fixed crashes and regressions around Word Wrap, FTP Explorer startup and plugin loading, Update Manager, syntax installation, and File Explorer state after restart.
Command-line navigation and portable-session persistence were corrected, together with numerous installer and compatibility fixes accumulated across the 2.0 builds.
